Au Pair Plus
A normal au pair plus will provide you with 25 hours worth of childcare, babysitting and help with light housework per week. But for some parents this is simply not enough. Thankfully, an Au Pair Plus offers the ideal solution.
An au pair plus can be on duty for up to 30 hours per week including any evening babysitting. £80 is the minimum weekly pay for this but we recommend £90-100 as this is increasingly becoming the market rate. If babysitting is not included in the 30 hours it must be treated as overtime and paid at £4 an hour. Your au pair plus should preferably not be asked to babysit on her days off but if really do need it & she wants to earn the extra money, it must be paid as overtime and plenty of advance notice given. Babysitting on her days off should always be negotiable and should not be a regular requirement. Babysitting hours are evening time only when the parents are out. Bear in mind that an au pair plus should have at least two days per week completely free of all work. On their normal work days au pair pluses can do extra hours for extra pay in school holidays if required.
An au pair is not a live in cleaner so housework duties must not exceed 20 % of the au pair's on duty hours (eg 6 hours a week in a 30 hour week). If you require more than this & the emphasis is on housework rather than childcare a Home Assistant is the appropriate choice. If so please select this option on your application form.
The host family should contribute towards the cost of language classes (minimum £5 a week but as much as you can reasonably afford). Host families are required to help their au pairs find a suitable and affordable course locally and to assist them with the enrollment process. For au pairs with very good to fluent English & therefore not attending language classes it would be a nice gesture to contribute something instead to a gym or other type of class should she wish to attend one.
In exchange for the help you’ll receive, you must provide the au pair plus with full board and their own room.
You will be expected to give your au pair plus two free days per week although they will also be able to provide you with two weeknights of babysitting out of their 30 weekly hours or paid as overtime. Remember it’s important to give your au pair plenty of prior notice if you will require them to babysit on one of their days off or at the weekend. Babysitting hours hours are evening time only when the parents are out.
